Ömer Faruk Aşık (born 4 July 1986, Turkey) is a professional basketball player of Fenerbahçe Ülker who started the 2007-08 season on loan to Alpella and finished his loan contract after Fenerbahçe Ülker's spider center Semih Erden's shock injury. The powerful and athletic center is 7' 0" tall (2.13 m), 250 lb (110 kg). and wore #6 for Alpella and now #24 for Fenerbahçe Ülker.

Has grown up playing for Fenerbahçe Ülker in his native Turkey. Then was loaned to Kadikoy Belediyesi in the Turkish League’s second division for the majority of the 2005-06 season and played with Alpella during the 2006-07 season and the start of 2007-08 before moving back to Fenerbahce. He earned Turkish League All-Star Game honors in 2007 and 2008.

He can score in the low post with a decent touch around the basket and a variety of moves. Rebounds well on both ends. Length and athleticism enable him to be a solid shot-blocker.

He was drafted 36th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2008 NBA Draft and subsequently traded to the Chicago Bulls for Sonny Weems and draft picks.1234

Career

2007-08

Started the season with Alpella, averaging 15.0 points and 11.3 rebounds in 10 games. Posted seven double-doubles. He played against Efes Pilsen for Alpella on his last game and have 37 mins, 25 points (ft:8/11, 2p:7/11, 3p:1/1), 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 block.

Returned to Fenerbahçe Ülker in December, averaging 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 20 games. With Alpella and Fenerbahçe Ülker combined, led the league in blocked shots (1.9 bpg). Averaged 7.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots in 18.6 minutes a contest for Fenerbahçe Ülker in Euroleague play. Set a Euroleague record for blocked shots in Top 16 round play (19).

2006-07

With Alpella, led the league in rebounding (11.2 rpg) and ranked second in blocked shots (2.0 bpg), while averaging 9.3 ppg. Set a season high with 55 points against TTNet Beykoz. Matched season high with 20 points and grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds against Mutlu Akü Selçuk Üniversitesi.

2005-06

Appeared in 9 games for Fenerbahçe Ülker, scoring a total of 26 points and grabbing 28 rebounds. Spent most of the season on loan to Kadikoy Belediyesi in the Turkish League’s Second Division.

Euroleague career

He made his debut for Fenerbahçe Ülker against Real Madrid Baloncesto on Euroleague match with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists performance. Currently, he is the best shot blocker of Euroleague Top 16 history with the 3.8 average in 5 games. Recorded highs of 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocked shots against Aris BC.

He is mostly known by his abnormal shot blocking ability. He has set a new Euroleague Top 16 record for blocked shots with 19 total. The only other player to surpass 15 blocks in the round was Robertas Javtokas of Lietuvos Rytas in 2005-06. With 3.8 blocks per game so far in the round, Aşık also owns the highest average yet recorded in the Top 16 too.

International career

Ömer Aşık is a regular national senior team.

He played with the silver medal-winning Turkey national basketball team in the U20 European Championships in Izmir, averaging 2.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in seven games.
