Øvre Eiker is a municipality in the county of Buskerud, Norway.
The old municipality of Eiker was divided into Øvre Eiker and Nedre Eiker July 1, 1885.
The municipality is bordered by Kongsberg, Flesberg, Sigdal, Modum, Lier, Nedre Eiker and Hof municipalities.
The administrative center Hokksund is the largest town in this municipality, with about 8,000 inhabitants. The remaining inhabitants, some 7,000, live in the villages of Vestfossen, Skotselv, Ormåsen and Darbu.
The name
The Norse form of the name was Eikjar. The name is the plural form of eiki n 'oak wood'. The meaning of Øvre Eiker is '(the) upper (part of) Eiker' (cf. Nedre Eiker). The municipality of Eiker was divided in 1885.

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1981). It shows a twig of oak.
