The 11th Street Bridges are a pair of one-way bridges across the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. They convey Interstate 295 across the Anacostia to its northern terminus at the unsigned Interstate 695.
The bridges are considered to be deficient in many ways. Most importantly, there are no ramps to or from District of Columbia Route 295. The ramps were not built because at the time, it was planned that Interstate 695 would be extended over Whitney Young Memorial Bridge to DC 295. As a consequence, traffic that could otherwise use the city's freeways must use local streets. Currently traffic from I-695 to the DC-295 (and vice versa) is redirected over the John Philip Sousa Bridge instead.
To remedy those deficiencies, as of 2005 the District of Columbia Department of Transportation is studying possible improvements to the bridges. The department estimates that construction on the improvements could begin in 2007.
