Debuts
- January 27 - Clara, Lu ’n’ Em, the first daytime radio serial, debuts on the NBC Blue Network as a late-evening program. On February 15, 1932, the show moves to its morning time slot.
- February 5 - Eddie Cantor has his first radio appearance on Rudy Vallee's The Fleischmann's Yeast Hour.
- September 2 - Bing Crosby made his solo debut on network radio on Sept. 2, 1931, and remained on air, with at least a weekly show, until the fall of 1962.
- December 25 - The Metropolitan Opera begins broadcasting its regular Saturday afternoon performances on the NBC Blue Network.
