Overview

The 422d TES is composed of aircrew and support personnel supporting six divisions of fighter and helicopter aircraft: A-10, F-15C, F-15E, F-16C, F-22A and HH-60G. The 422d TES conducts operational tests for ACC on new hardware and upgrades to each of the six aircraft in a simulated combat environment. The 422d TES also develops and publishes new tactics for these aircraft.

The results of these tests directly benefit aircrews in ACC, Pacific Air Forces and United States Air Forces in Europe by providing them with operationally proven hardware and software systems.

Current tests include night covert operation by the A-10, developing UAV (Predator) employment tactics for integration with the operational mission of the F-16C, helmet-mounted sight capability for the F-15C, new avionics software updates for the F-15E and improved combat search and rescue tactics for the HH-60G.1

Operations History

Engaged in combat in Europe, 3 Jul 1944–4 May 1945.

The unit was reactivated in 1969 as the 422d Test and Evaluation Squadron. The squadron unit was tasked with testing and evaluating state-of-the-art weapons systems, exploiting foreign technologies, and developing leading edge tactics to improve the future combat capability of aerospace forces.

It was composed of aircrew and support personnel supporting six different flights of fighters and helicopter aircraft: A-10, F-15C, F-15E, F-16C, F-22A and HH-60G. The results of these tests directly benefited aircrews in ACC, PACAF, and USAFE by providing them with operationally proven hardware and software systems.45
