Alan Kardec de Souza Pereira Junior, usually known as Alan Kardec (born January 12, 1989[2] in Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil[3]), is a Brazilian football striker currently playing for Benfica of the Portuguese Liga. He is named after the systematizer of Spiritism, Allan Kardec.

Career

Vasco da Gama

On February 14, 2007,[4] in Manaus, Alan Kardec played his first match for Vasco, when his club beat Fast Clube 2–1 for the Copa do Brasil.[5] On April 11, 2007,[6] he scored his first goal for Vasco, when his club and Botafogo drew 4–4 in a Campeonato Carioca match.[7] On July 21, 2007,[8] Alan Kardec scored his first Série A goal, when Vasco beat Atlético Mineiro 4–0.[7] He played 26 Série A matches and scored eight goals in 2007,[9] while in 2008, he played 19 matches and scored two goals in that competition.[10]

Internacional

He was loaned to Internacional on September 1, 2009.[11] Alan Kardec played his first game as an Internacional player on October 28, 2009, a Série A game against São Paulo at Estádio do Morumbi, in which he came as a substitute for Fabiano Eller.[12]

Benfica

Alan Kardec announced on December 13, 2009 that he will play for Portuguese club Benfica in the 2010 season, after Vasco da Gama accepted a €2.5 million deal with the European team.[13] The following week, he signed a contract with the Lisbon-based club.[14] On March 18, 2010, Alan Kardec scored the winning goal in their Europa League game against Olympique Marseille with a ferocious strike from a hard angle.

Santos

In July 2011, was confirmed that Alan was loaned for one season to Santos.[15] Santos attempt to renew the loan, but Benfica denied and Kardec returned.[16][17]

International career

Alan Kardec played eight South American Youth Championship matches for the Brazilian under-20 team between January 20, 2009 and February 8,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] scoring two goals, respectively against Uruguay and Argentina.[20][22] He scored two goals in Brazil's first 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup game, played on September 27, 2009, against Costa Rica.[26] He also scored a goal in the round of 16, against Uruguay,[27] played on October 7, 2009, and the only goal of the semifinal, against Costa Rica, played on October 13, 2009.[28]
