Allsorts (also named Gigglish Allsorts) was a Childrens television show that was broadcasted from 1989 to 1995 on CITV, made by Granada Television. It was highly remembered for its quirky humour, songs and entertaining storylines that the characters would have to discover, solve or enjoy. Its main educational aim was for pre-school children but anybody could sit and be entertained by this long-gone fun programme. It starred Andrew Wightman as Bonzo and Wayne Jackman as Jiffy (these two characters were featured throughout the whole run of the show). Also there was a character called Virginia who was Bonzo & Jiffy's next door neighbour (played by Virginia Radcliffe) along with her dog Taffy. From 1993, Virginia and Taffy left and were replaced by JaJay (played by Jane Cox) and a female box called 'Box' (voiced by Julie Westwood). At that point the show was re-named to Gigglish Allsorts with a new set of titles, new house and new music.
Characters
The show consisted of four main characters.
Jiffy - Was one of notable characters of show for his silly, child like humour.
Bonzo- Bonzo was also sensible but very slow.
Virginia - Bonzo & Jiffy's next door neighbour (1989 - 1992)
Taffy - Virginia's dog (1989 - 192)
JJ - JJ was the most sensible one of the group, telling off the others if in the wrong.
Box- Box was a box that spoke. Very bossy when wanting her own way. Hillarious outburts of comedy.
Format
The shows format changed every season. The titles and the set, with Box changing her appearance, the characters clothing got more different and the storylines became a little more complex. In the Gigglish Allsorts era of the show, the characters even went out of the house on outings like a visit to Gulliver's World in the episode 'The Big Day Out' in 1994.
Present Day
Since the show ended production in 1995, neither Allsorts or Gigglish Allsorts have been repeated on CITV at all. But you can currently see a few episodes on Youtube.
