Area code 405 serves the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It covers the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area including cities such as Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Stillwater, Shawnee, Chickasha, and Moore.
The other two area codes serving Oklahoma are 918, which covers northeastern Oklahoma (including the city of Tulsa) and 580 which serves western and southern Oklahoma.
Prior to 1953-01-01, all of Oklahoma was contained within 405. On that date, northeastern Oklahoma was assigned area code 918. On 1997-11-01, 405 was reduced to only cover only central Oklahoma, while the remainder of the state was assigned area code 580.
