Asaka (朝霞市 Asaka-shi?) is a city located in Saitama, Japan. It was named (as Asaka town) in 1932 after Prince Asaka who was an honorary chairman of the Tokyo Golf Club, which relocated to the area at that time. Asaka town became a city on March 15, 1967.
As of 2006, the city has an estimated population of 124,980 and the density of 6,800 persons per km². The total area is 18.38 km². There have been discussions about merging the city with the neighbouring cities of Niiza and Shiki, with no certain agreement.citation needed
