B. K. School of Business Management is one of the oldest B-School in the state of Gujarat. It is post graduate department of Gujarat University situalted in front of K.S. School of Business Management, University Campus, Ahmedabad, a state run university. The school was started in 1976, by humble donation by Dr. Biharilal Kaniyalal, himself a great economist, philanthropist and industrialist. To cater the needs of society and corporate, IIM, Ahmedabad was not capable to serve local students and those who could not afford higher fees. The school of offers two year full time and three year part time MBA program for working executives. The school is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and part of B+ National Assessment and Accreditation Council accreditation, both are union government agencies. The school receives a grant from the University Grants Commission (UGC), and run Industry Institute Partnership cell under the UGC umbrella.

It is one of the lowest fee (negligible) charging institute. It is topped in all state MBA institute in terms of GCET admission and placement. The school started Port Management program to cater needs of expanding international business and privatisation of port in Gujarat. The school offers students exchange program with management institutes in United Kingdom.

The school is department of Government run Gujarat University, and offers two year full time MBA program and three year MBA part time program (i.e. evening program for working executives) and offer specialization in Finance, Marketing and HR. The school also offer Post Graduate Diploma program in Port Management and Diplomas in Finance, HR, Marketing & Advertisement. The school has tradition to update course as per demand of the industry. The school offer placement assistance to the students and enjoy well equipped class-rooms and laboratory. The computer centre of the school is equipped with the latest hardware and software. The school also subscribes to online database such as PROWESS. To enable teaching through audio-visual aids, the institute has a modern multimedia classroom equipped with latest audio, video and projection systems.

The objectives of the school are to build successful managers who strive to develop a shared vision, identify opportunities and inspire change is the mission of B.K. School. It provides the knowledge and framework towards meeting this challenge. To equip the students with the latest management concepts and thoughts; To inculcate an “hands-on” approach towards management; To act as an interface between academia and industry.

Rankings

The school was ranked 28th among all B-School while it was 3rd in Asia for part time MBA. It was also ranked as 6th under university MBA program in India [2][3].

Admission process

The school selects the students through the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET), which is a two-stage screening process. The first stage is a written test, which measures candidates’ quantitative, verbal and analytical skills. The second stage comprising of group discussion and personal interview seeks to assess their communication and interpersonal skills. The school has consistently attracted the top 60 students out of a pool of more than 14000 students appearing for GCET. The test is conducted by State Government for all B-school in Gujarat. [4]
