Diagnostic fasting encompasses a procedure to rule out causes of ketotic hypoglycemia. This is an easily conducted test to rule out other causes like Hypopituitarism, adrenal insufficiency and insulin secreting tumours Procedure: Overnight fasting (12 hrs) with hourly monitoring of blood sugar and urine ketones. On detection of hypoglycemia blood is drawn for serum levels of Insulin, Cortisol, Growth hormone and lactate and measures to correct hypoglycemia are taken.
