Edgefield Federal Correctional Institution also known as Federal Correctional Institution, Edgefield, is a medium security federal prison for men located in Edgefield, South Carolina. The facility is located on the border between South Carolina and Georgia on highway 25, and is served by airports in Augusta, Georgia and Columbia.
The facility was opened in November 1998, has the capacity to house 960 inmates, and has a staff of around 400. There is also a smaller satellite prison camp for minimum security inmates.[1]
Notable inmates
- William Cotton, former Hamilton County, Tennessee Commissioner, caught up in the Operation Tennessee Waltz corruption sting.[2]
- René Gonzáles, one of the Cuban five.[3]
- Kent Hovind, founder of Creation Science Evangelism[4]

- Merle Temple, former campaign manager of Georgia schools superintendent Linda Schrenko, in prison for embezzling $600,000 in federal education money.[6]
