Rabbi Gedalia Dov Schwartz is an internationally recognized scholar and rabbinic leader, and is Av Beis Din of Chicago Rabbinical Council. He is the author of two books and numerous scholarly articles on Jewish law. He also serves as chair of the Rabbinical Council of America's Halachic Commission and is the Head of the Beth Din of America in New York. He was born and raised in Newark, N.J. A graduate of Yeshiva College, he was ordained by the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University. Following this ordination, he received a fellowship in the Institute of Advanced Rabbinic Research of Yeshiva University.

He is a past president of the Mizrachi of Rhode Island, past president of the Philadelphia Region of the Rabbinical Council of America and coordinator of its Beth Din.

Before coming to Chicago, Rabbi Schwartz was the rabbi of the Young Israel of Boro Park for 18 1/2 years, and previously held pulpits in Rhode Island, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Since 1972 he has been a member of the Rabbinical Council of America.

In 1987 Rabbi Schwartz came to Chicago as the newly elected Av Beth Din of the Chicago Rabbinical Council. At the National Convention of the Rabbinical Council of America in June 1991, he was appointed as the Rosh Beth Din, the Chief Presiding Judge, of the National Beth Din of the Rabbinical Council of America.
