Plot in the film

Hutch is initially a regular rabbit, captured by Wallace and Gromit after Lady Tottington has a major infestation of rabbits, with the Giant Vegetable Competition soon to commence. After Wallace has an accident after attempting to use his "Mind-O-Matic" to brainwash the captive Rabbits, Hutch is slowly transformed into a rabbit clone of Wallace, with his intelligence, share of Wallace's interest in inventions, and his loving for cheese. As a result of this accident, Wallace is cursed to transform into the "Were-Rabbit" at nightfall. Hutch uses his intelligence to fix the Mind-O-Matic, as Wallace's intelligence is partly disabled, and Hutch also replaces Wallace in many missions Gromit embarks on in a bid to capture the Were-Rabbit, such as when they plan to save the Were-Rabbit, with Victor Quartermaine on the hunt to kill the beast, but with Hutch and Gromit's help, Wallace is restored to normal. In the end, Hutch is released into the "bunny sanctuary" at Tottington Hall.

Video game

Hutch also plays a role in the video game, based on the film. Here he replaces Wallace as Gromit's companion during the night, capable of most of both Wallace and Gromit's abilities, he also uses many of Wallace's phrases used in the game.citation needed
