The Italian Football Championship was the most senior football championship in Italy from the 1898 season to the 1928/1929 season. The Serie A championship replaced the old Italian Football Championship for the 1929/1930 season.

The championship, unlike Serie A was for most seasons, structured with many local groups. The winners of each of these groups went on to a playoff with the eventual winners being declared champions. Genoa CFC were declared the first champions after defeating Internazionale Torino in the final, 3-1 after extra time.

Statistics and records from the Italian Football Championship seasons are generally included with Serie A when talking about Serie A records as a whole.
