Lippincott Williams & Wilkins is an academic and professional medical publisher, founded in 1792 and now a part of the Wolters Kluwer group. It publishes textbooks, various electronic media, and over 250 journals and newsletters in the health-care field, aimed at physicians, nurses and specialists. Its headquarters are in Philadelphia, USA.

History

The publisher had its origins in a Philadelphia bookstall opened by Benjamin Warner and Jacob Johnson in 1792. In 1978, the company (then named J.B. Lippincott) was sold to Harper & Row; in 1990, it was sold to Wolters Kluwer. It later merged with Raven Publishers to become Lippincott-RAYVENT, which then merged with Williams & Wilkins, ultimately forming Lippincott Williams & Wilkins in 1998.
