The Jordanian monarchy was set up in 1921, with help from the British. The sons of Sherif Hussein ibn Ali, were set up as kings of Iraq and Jordan. In Jordan, Abdullah I of Jordan was made Emir of Transjordan (11 April 1921 - 25 May 1946), King of Transjordan (25 May 1946 - 3 April 1949) and King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 3 April 1949. The Hashemite Dynasty originates in the Hejaz and is actually alien to Jordan, but it continues to rule Jordan with general popular support.
