Dr Michael Macklin (born 25 February 1943) is an Australian educator and fundraiser who was an Australian Democrats senator for Queensland, (1981-1990).
Macklin played a pivotal role in the important first parliamentary decade of his party, for whom he was the first Whip—serving in that position for six years. He then became deputy Senate leader for the party under Janine Haines and was acting leader from her resignation in February, 1990, until 30 June 1990, when his choice to retire from the Senate took effect. Janet Powell then became Senate leader, duly elected by the party's national membership. As a senator for Queensland, Macklin was replaced by Cheryl Kernot, elected in March 1990. After retirement, he became national president of the Australian Democrats. He went on to have a successful career in business and, prior to retirement at the end of 2006, was Executive Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of New England, Australia.
