Petr Mrázek (pronounced /'mra:zek/ in Czech) (born February 14, 1992) is a Czech professional ice hockey player who is currently playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the 5th round (141st overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Prior to coming to North America, Mrázek played in the Czech Extraliga where he appeared in net with HC Vítkovice Steel during the 2007-08 post-season.
On April 4, 2011, Mrázek was signed by the Grand Rapids Griffins to an amateur tryout contract.[1]
Mrázek also competed in the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championships in Alberta, Canada. He backstopped the Czech Republic to the quarterfinals, where his team was finally eliminated from medal contention in overtime by the Russians. Mrázek was selected the best goalkeeper of championship.
Mrázek was added to the Czech roster for IIHF World Championship 2012 as the third goalkeeper. On 15 May 2012 he recorded his first international appearance when he substituted Jakub Štěpánek for 9 final minutes during a 8-1 win against Germany.
Mrázek started his professional career with the Toledo Walleye, posting a 2-1-0 record and winning his first start 4-1 against the Kalamazoo Wings. He was called up to Grand Rapids soon thereafter, and posted a 16-7-3 record. He won his first start there as well, a 4-1 victory over the Texas Stars.
Mrázek made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings on February 7, 2013 in a road game against the St. Louis Blues. Detroit won 5-1, with Mrázek posting 26 saves.[2]
