Looking great! This is a fine addition. Maybe we can group the articles a little more? Maybe valves together or something?--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 11:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree - grouping the valves is probably a good idea. I'll do this the next time I add topics to the template (if someone else doesn't do it first. Dlodge 17:24, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Disappearing categories
When I add this blue box to a page that also has the [[Category:Cardiac surgery]] tag, the entire category footer disappears. Any idea why? It might be useful to edit the blue box template to automatically place any page the blue box appears into the category. Dlodge 03:11, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- This seems to be working ok now. The template contains the [[Category:Cardiac surgery]] tag, so every page that includes this template is automatically added to the Cardiac surgery category. It is redundant to add the category tag to the page separately, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Dlodge 19:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
CSS
I converted this template to CSS format using the medicine template Template:Medicine as an example. I don't know much about CSS, so it would be appreciated if someone could check the correctness of the formatting. Dlodge 19:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
noncompaction cardiomyopathy
Hi there. iw oudl like to propose adding noncompaction cardiomyopathy to the template under Heart transplant section. I see there other types of specific cardiomyopathies listed there. Thanks Philbentley 08:49, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Noncompaction cardiomyopathy is a very rare (presently 1.2 per 1,000,000 people) congenital cardiomyopathy - certainly not a common cause of heart transplantation. Perhaps a "Treatment" section linking to heart transplantation on the Noncompaction cardiomyopathy page would suffice. Dlodge 04:26, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Combination with vascular surgery
The template update looks great, but the cardiac surgery template should not be combined with the other vascular procedures.
Particularly, Thrombectomy and Carotid endarterectomy are vascular surgery procedures which aren't performed by cardiac surgeons, likewise the cardiac procedures aren't performed by vascular surgeons (the exception being cardiovascular surgeons who practice both specalities - but has not been the training regime for many years, US cardiac surgeons are presently trained in Cardiothoracic surgery, but this is falling out of favour and the specialties are being separated). Vascular surgery entails a large number of procedures and deserves it's own template; check out the vascular surgery page for a list of some of the many procedures.
Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt is normally performed by interventional radiologists or hepatologists. Venous cutdown is most frequently performed in the ER during resuscitations when IV access is difficult. Dlodge 14:59, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Include category with template?
Previously the [[Category:Cardiac surgery]] tag was added to every page tagged with this template. This resulted in every page tagged with this template being included in the category. When the template was updated to the latest appearance, the category tag was placed in a noinclude tag. This resulted in most of the articles in the cardiac surgery category being removed, unless the category tag was explicitly included on the page. Any good reasons not to revert to the old way of including all pages with the procedures navbox in the category? Dlodge 22:24, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
