Virginiamycin is an antibiotic similar to pristinamycin. It is used in the fuel ethanol industry to prevent microbial contamination. It is very similar to the antibiotic Synercid which is used for human bacterial infections and is a derivative of pristinamycin, known as Quinupristin/Dalfopristin.
