This page allows unregistered and new users to add new images with the assistance of experienced Wikipedians. The easiest way to upload a new image, however, is to create a free Wikipedia user account and then log in. No personal information is necessary to register, and registered users can upload new images themselves after four days and after making 10 edits.

Follow these directions to submit an image for upload.

  1. Check whether the image already exists by searching for it.
  2. Verify that the image is free (in the public domain or available under an open license) or meets Wikipedia's standards for fair use.
  3. Click the button below to create a new request
  4. Follow the instructions on the resulting page
  5. After you do this, a registered user will upload the file if the request conforms to all the instructions above and to all Wikipedia policies. Most images on the Internet do not qualify. Please check back regularly in case there are any questions about the image.
 Copyrighted images will now be declined on sight.

Reason for upload: I recently wrote the article King Goldemar, about a character from German folklore. I've found a nice, public-domain image of Goldemar on Google Books, for I'm having trouble figuring out how to upload it. I'm in Japan, and Google Books blocks lots of public-domain sources to visitors from outside the US (I supposed to sidestep international copyright issues). At any rate, the work in question was published in 1877 and should present no problems. I can access the book through a proxy server, but the proxy doesn't let me download the freely available PDF provided by Google. Upload to Commons would be nice, as well.
