Guidelines

In general, this page should be used primarily to solicit outside feedback regarding mergers (particularly those of a controversial nature), or assistance with difficult or complicated mergers. Brief replies may be posted here, but lengthy discussions should be confined to the talk pages of the articles involved. After articles are merged (or a consensus that the articles should not be merged is reached), please remove them from the list below.

• Merge List of countries by number of total troops with List of countries by number of active troops. There is no need for having to seperate articles on practically the same thing. • Merge IMAX Corporation into IMAX. A separate article for the corporation is (usually) not necessary when the corporation's name is the same as the name product or service. For example, McDonald's Corporation redirects to McDonald's. Not much can be said about the corporation that wouldn't fit in the article for the product itself. –Dream out loud (talk) 17:29, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
• Merge Wilderness Diarrhea into Travelers Diarrhea. Innumerable published articles demonstrate that these topics are widely discussed separately. Several editors disagree and seek to trim and merge Wilderness Diarrhea.Calamitybrook (talk) 21:17, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
• Merge Shockvertising and Shock advertising. They appear to be on the exact same topic just with different names. • Merge Sud-Est, Sud-Ouest, Sud Aviation and Nord Aviation into Aérospatiale. All articles are currently stubs with the "Sud" company articles containing duplicate history information. • Merge Anwar Ibrahim (politician) into Anwar Ibrahim. • The Ivan Milat and Backpacker Murders should be merged because they are about the same topic. • Merge Clone Wars Adventures Volume 1, Clone Wars Adventures Volume 2, Clone Wars Adventures Volume 3, Clone Wars Adventures Volume 4, Clone Wars Adventures Volume 5, Clone Wars Adventures Volume 6, Clone Wars Adventures Volume 7 into Clone Wars Adventures. • I've never merged a page before so I'm hoping to get some kind of feedback before completing the merge. Editors seek to separate the Jack the Ripper media construct from the factual crimes. • Merge SNUPY Awards, Sawyer Center, and Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm into Southern Nazarene University. The first two aren't likely notable enough to warrant their own articles, nor are they long enough or even sourced articles (the third point contributing to the first and would probably affect the second if properly addressed). August 2008

• Merge Tai Situpa and Pema Tönyö Nyinje since both articles are essentially about one and the same living person. I suggest merging the former article into the latter since "Tai Situ" or "Tai Situpa" is simply a title of rank or respect which was applied to several different lines of Tibetan incarnations or Tulku. If the article is going to be about this whole line of incarnations it should probably be called something like "Palpung Tai Situpas" to distinguish from other lines also called "Tai Situpa". • Merge Galactic Warlord, Deathwing Over Veynaa, Day of the Starwind, Planet of the Warlord and Young Legionary into a single unified article about the enitire Last Legionary series by Douglas Hill.
• Merge List of mass murderers and spree killers by number of victims into List of events named massacres. These two pages address related subjects that have a large overlap. Massacre events (including multiple location massacre events) and the number of victims resulting from those events can both be explained in a single article on "List of events named massacres". • Merge Conservative talk into Talk radio. "Conservative talk", IMO, has an NPOV issue, and it seems that it would be better to roll the new information into the existing thorough US-political-talk-radio section.
• Merge Cereal#Global market into 2007–2008 world food price crisis. The section of the "Cereal" article is only peripherally relevant to cereal; it's about the "Food price crisis" instead, and should, IMO, be in that article. Tevildo (talk) 10:44, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
• Merge Putrajaya Independence Square into Putra Square. Currently "Putra Square" is redirecting to "Putrajaya Independence Square", but I think "Putra Square" should be the appropriate one, because I've passed by the place and found that it's called "Dataran Putra" in Malay, which is "Putra Square" in English. • Merge Hodges meteorite into Sylacauga (meteorite) - undo fork by Basilicofresco (10:34, 17 June 2008 (UTC)) - because the Hodges meteorite is simply a fragment of Sylacauga. The fork has created two small articles (one actually a stub) where one would suffice. The scientific and culture/history information could easily exist in one article under two headings. • Merge Erech into Uruk. Same city, same historical information. Erech is just a Biblical reference to Uruk, and the Erech infiormation is single source, non-referenced.

• Merge Computer crime, Cybercrime and Internet crime, articles have alot of overlap and i believe it would be best to have a single article. • Merge Ridwan and Rizwan as these represent only variant transliterations of the same name. Perhaps Ridwan needs to be renamed Ridwan (angel), or perhaps Rizwan needs to be renamed Rizwan (disambiguation). Whatever the solution, the disambiguation page should link to the article about the angel as well as to articles with Redouan, Redouane, Ridwan, Rizvan and Rizwan in their titles (all variant transliterations). But there is no explanation at the discussion points that explains what the proposals are and what your reasons for the proposed merges are. You have pointed to old, different merge discussions, or to pages with no section set up for discussion with your rationale. As it is now, I don't see how people will understand what you are proposing or be able to discuss it, so unless more is added I don't anticipate there will be discussion. A situation where there is no discussion likely doesn't mean there is consensus for or against the proposal - it means they need more information to be able to discuss. Re merges involving Dunhams or Soetoros: what's being proposed basically is for these less-notable Dunham–Soetoro family members to be listed together in a new, single article. This can start as a list of the two families' members with each member covered in a sub-section. This would simply involve transferring each article to the new compound article. All of these pages have been challenged over notability and defended, albeit at times, I would say, unpleasently and abusively by obviously partisan editors, possibly sockpuppeteers. The pages seem to be linked via the edits of one Nick Mallory.They also appear to 'spin off' from Stangroom, Benson and Baggini's magazine, the Philosopher's Magazine, of which its own notability (although greater) is also questionable. The links for Stangroom's and Benson's site are uncheckable - I suggest that an unfollowable link should not be used to justify a page's existence as on the Butterflies and Wheels page. The link was also misdescribed as being to the Independent (daily newspaper in London) whereas apparently it was to a student advertsing supplement published by the Independent group. There are serious weaknesses in the sources being used on the Ophelia Benson page. That TLS review does not exist online, and there must therefore be doubts that is it ever was as described. Publishing books should not be a sufficient criterion for 'notability' as claimed during the Benson 'notability' review. In the UK alone, there are over 100 000 new books a year! It is true that there are 'some public references' of some sort for the books and so on, and hence I suggest a more sensible compromise would be to lump all the pages under one heading. I don't say what it should be but the obvious choice is to use the existing Philosopher's Magazine page as the start, and then detail both Benson and Stangroom's work under it - and perhaps at this point it would make good logical sense to add Julian Baggini's existing page in too. However, as I see the page is protected at the moment, I willnot try to make it part of this more modest proposal!
