Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:
WP:RFPP
WP:RFP
WP:RPP

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. Add a level 4 header at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header.
(for example, for an article use: ===={{la|ARTICLE}}====)
  2. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  3. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  4. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

Slunj (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection. Page is periodically vandalized by listing random city names in twinnings. Only Castel San Giovanni should be listed. 78.2.236.115 (talk) 10:14, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

English Revolution (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite semi-protection. Persistent episodic IP vandalism. The latest example comes from 86.137.202.165, who does it in a style we are long since familiar with on this page. Chris O'Riordan (talk) 09:55, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Audrina Patridge (|talk|history|links|watch|logs), Lauren Conrad (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection both Vandalism, Recent 3RR and edit warring by a blocked user. 210.5.104.81 (talk) 08:35, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Battlezone II: Combat Commander (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

semi-protect. High level of anonymous IP vandalism/disruptive editing, consisting of forum members using multiple anonymous IP's keep trying to put an external link to their discussion forum even after a full discussion on the subject's talk page explaining why links to forums are not allowed per WP:EL. They've called repeatedly on their related forum thread [1] [2] for re-adding the link if it's removed. Marty Goldberg (talk) 07:55, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Arab states of the Persian Gulf (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, Anon edits from various IPs are constantly replacing instances of "Persian" with "Arabian", and attempting to rename titles. .Freqsh0 (talk) 04:37, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. Tiptoety talk 04:43, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protection vandalized by multiple ip's and one registered user in the last 24 hours. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 04:06, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of one day. Tiptoety talk 04:39, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Talk:Ten Lost Tribes (|article|history|links|watch|logs)

indefinite semi-protection Vandalism, I requested page protection last week to no avail. Someone suggested waiting to see if the vandalism persisted. Of course it has: check the history; it was inevitable. This multi-IP raider has pulled the same stunt almost every single day. Someone last week suggested a different course of action than having the page semi-protected indefinitely, but the rules for every single course of action seem to preclude their use for this kind of case. One of them calls for a user to have had five or more blocks because it's an ordeal to try to get an ISP to block him. Well, look at the IP addresses! He's probably running around town hitting very coffee shop and library out there--there is no one ISP involved. This person, though (identifiable as one person by his action--ranting about the idea that anyone would think Afghans could be Semitic, and by his placing his rant out of order on the Talk page), has been blocked at least half a dozen times under multiple IP addresses, and will not give up. Meanwhile, virtually no legitimate IP traffic has come to this page on the past year.

Every item from the history below is from this person, and has been reverted.

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. Vandalism would need to be MUCH worse before I'd protect a talk page. - Philippe 22:22, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, fine. Since that's your view, let's say you spell Steven J. Anderson and me for a while, and you revert his changes every single day, place fresh warnings, have him ignore you, and enjoy the futility of it all. Since it isn't "enough" disruptive activity, it shouldn't put you out in the slightest. It would be really nice if someone would come up with a constructive way of dealing with this.—Largo Plazo (talk) 22:27, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
While I understand your frustration, it is a core tenant of Wikipedia that we strive to be an encyclopedia that anyone can edit. That means not protecting pages unless we have no choice. I know it's frustrating for you, and I will add the page to my watchlist (along with around 2,000 others...) but please understand that it's not that I don't agree with you; it's that I'm radically committed to keeping the encyclopedia open to being edited as much as possible. This simply doesn't rise to the level of vandalism that would be required for me to protect an article talk page (which is even higher than would be required for an article itself). - Philippe 22:30, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
This is the Ten Lost Tribes vandal. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive473#Anonymous Aryan activist. I tried to help by issuing long blocks to some IPs, but he seems to have gotten around them. It would strengthen the case for semi-protection if someone would write up an entry about him in Wikipedia:Long term abuse. The talk page was already semi-protected in the past, though never for more than two weeks. Article damage by this guy is prevented by the semi-protection of Ten Lost Tribes and Kashmiri people. I suggest that a dedicated talk page for IP editors to use when commenting on Ten Lost Tribes is not out of the question. EdJohnston (talk) 02:47, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
I looked at Wikipedia:Long term abuse before making this latest report here. It says, "Do not report IP addresses! Severe IP vandals should be reported to Wikipedia:Abuse reports, not here." So that avenue is unavailable, and I went to Wikipedia:Abuse reports. It says, "Please do not list IP addresses without a significant (At least 5 Blocks) history of vandalism. As contacting ISP's is a time consuming business, your request may be rejected." Well, as I keep emphasizing, this person slides effortlessly from IP address to IP address to IP address. Especially in light of everyone's (justified) reluctance to place blocks on IP addresses, he may commit hundreds of separate acts of vandalism before ever racking up five blocks on one of them. There needs to be some recourse for cases like this, and if it falls outside the thresholds that have been set up under the different reporting and remediation mechanisms, then one or more thresholds could stand to be adjusted.—Largo Plazo (talk) 03:04, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
If you have evidence that a person's IP-hopping, you can actually run an abuse report on the range(s) being used. If you don't know how to calculate a range, ask a more knowledgeable user to do it for you. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 03:19, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
There is no one range. Or, looking at it another way, the range would be 65.0.0.0-208.255.255.255, more than half of all defined IPv4 addresses. See the list of edits above to see what I'm talking about.—Largo Plazo (talk) 03:25, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Then run an abuse report on the applicable ranges. Post this list to a knowledgeable user's page and (s)he should be able to tell you the ranges involved. There's more than one range. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 03:30, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
If this discussion needs to continue, someone should move it to WP:AN, since comments left at RFPP disappear in a puff of smoke (there is no archiving of protection discussions). EdJohnston (talk) 05:31, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try and ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Declined. There appears to have been some disruption very recently. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:17, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

Jayen Varma (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

indefinite create-protection ,I am not sure if the request will be considered a valid reason, but I am posting at the request of the subject of the page. User:Jayenvarma who is apparently the subject of the page, and has requested that the page be deleted (which it has been, twice) and that it be protected so that it can not be recreated. It also appears that he has changed his user name to User:Percussive Bass Guitarist He has very little understanding of how Wikipedia works and thinks that posting the request on his talk page is all that is needed to make it happen. Personally I do not believe that the request meets Wikipedia requirements, but I felt that I should at least post it in the proper place for it to be considered. See User talk:Percussive Bass Guitarist for a more extensive discussion of the request Dbiel (Talk) 19:47, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

It now appears that User talk:Jayenvarma was moved to User talk:Percussive Bass Guitarist which was then moved by User:Jayenvarma to User talk:Big Head Ache. I have no idea what he is trying to do with these multiple user names while making postings using the original user name. Dbiel (Talk) 20:19, 7 October 2008 (UTC) Note: user:Big Head Ache has not been registered which makes the user talk page even more confusing. Dbiel (Talk) 20:22, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Declined The article has only been recreated once, and unlike userpages we cannot protect a page on the subject's say-so. Sorry. If it gets recreated again, I will protect it, however.
