Articles needing attention

FA-class
  • Names of the Greeks: This reached FA status in 2005; there is discussion on the Talk page suggesting that it might not meet current FA standards and, therefore, might be placed in to FA-review at any time.
  • Yuan (surname): This also reached FA status in 2005 and should be reviewed to see if there is a challenge potential to its FA-status.
B-class
  • Family name: this is a central article, and it is far too long: national content should be split into individual articles. I'll do this this coming weekend (2008-Jan-21); wanted to give a heads-up here (discuss).
  • Smith (surname)
Start-class
  • Adrian — needs references and more meat
  • Ciarán
  • Sinclair (surname); Just added a whole bunch to it, its a list page mostly at the moment, I cleaned it up and added lots, will continue with this, just sticking it here for any extra help, thanks. ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 20:25, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Linguisticsumbrella (no back-linkage)
Linguistics is relevant to name studies in at least three ways: by providing the limits on vocalization and spelling that apply to human names in addition to other words in a language; by providing a language context from which new human names may emerge (e.g. brown the color becoming Brown the surname; smith the occupation becoming Smith the surname); and by providing transformation rules that apply to human names as they traverse linguistic boundaries alongside the migration of peoples and the evolution of languages.
  • Etymologyinactive (no back-linkage)
The etymology of a surname or given name is an essential part of a complete surname or given name article
  • Arabic Namesinactive (no back-linkage)
