The Bird collaboration is a coordinated effort by WikiProject Birds to improve Wikipedia's bird-related content. However, being a member of WikiProject Birds is not a prerequisite for participation in this collaboration (nor, of course, is participation a requirement for membership in the WikiProject). All Wikipedians, regardless of their level of expertise on the subject, are welcome to contribute.

Aside from the main benefit of creating better bird articles on Wikipedia, it is hoped that the successful execution of this initiative will a) Attract new editors to work on the Project; b) Improve the writing skills of existing editors; and c) Demonstrate the value of collaboration on Wikipedia. Additionally, some large bird articles may burn out individual editors before they reach Featured status. The ultimate goal of the Bird Collaboration is to get at least one bird or bird-related article featured every couple of months.

Nomination procedure

Any user may nominate an article to be collaborated upon. Nominees should:

  • Be about any bird or directly bird-related topic.
  • Need a significant amount of work in terms of content, organization, prose, etc.

If you would like to nominate an article, please add it at the bottom of the list of nominees along with a short note describing why you think it should be chosen.

Nominations...

A list of past collaborations can be viewed here.

Please list nominees below using the code laid out in the above section. Newer nominees should be placed on the bottom of the list. Feel free to vote for as many nominees as you wish, but only once per nomination. Please only vote to indicate support, do not vote in the negative. If you like, add a comment in the comment's section under nomination, or on the collaboration talk page. Articles will remain on the list for 3 months, after which time the list will be blanked/refreshed and voting started anew. For the current collaboration, see the template at the top of the page.

The next Bird collaboration will be chosen on September 21st.

Birdwatching

Nominated September 19, 2008; Support:

  1. Shyamal (talk) 14:38, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Comments:

  1. High importance topic currently with poor structure and verifiability. Collaboration can give this some worldwide coverage instead of US/Brit overemphasis. Shyamal (talk) 14:38, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Rock Pigeon

Nominated May 20, 2008;

Support:

  1. . Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 00:40, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
  2. . Nasty bird! Shyamal (talk) 05:58, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Comments:

  • Some work is happening on this one, it should be a monster article (so it has some momentum happening) and has lots of things to talk about.

Philippine Eagle

Nominated June 2, 2008;

Support:

  1. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 02:11, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Comments:

  • This is an article on one of the best-known birds outside of what lives in your backyard. It is the world's largest eagle, is critically endangered, a monotypic genus, has some images and text, needs more text and citations desperately, and all in all is a fascinating animal. Additionally, I don't think we have many good articles on a Southeast Asian bird. On the downside, we have done quite a few birds of prey in this collaboration. Oh well. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 02:11, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Acorn Woodpecker

Nominated August 18, 2008;

Support:

1. Sabine's Sunbird talk 00:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Comments:

  • An unusual woodpecker with a unique well studied social and foraging life. Sabine's Sunbird talk 00:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
