Acs4b (talk · contribs) I'm interested in Cultural geography, Human geography, Urban geography, Demography and Political geography. I don't consider my knowledge in Geography to be fantastic, since I am only in secondary school, but I think I'm still above average in this field (for someone my age, that is). To put it in another perspective, I know that Portuguese is the official language of Brazil and I also have a knowledge of several capital cities of the world such as Berne (which is the capital of Switzerland), Antananarivo (Madagascar), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), Baku (Azerbaijan) and Andorra la Vella (Andorra). Wikipedia has obviously improved my geography skills.

Pages needing Attention

Traveling around the World on Wikipedia: the lists of basic country topics

Along with the main article on each country, the lists of basic country topics should be considered top priority for development and maintenance, because they are the corresponding general reference resource on Wikipedia for each country. Based on a standard design each list presents its information in the same logical order, so that when completed, these lists will be the easiest way on Wikipedia to study countries or find general information about them.

Each list doubles as a general outline of knowledge about a country and as a table of contents (or fundamental site map) of the material about that country on Wikipedia. These lists are intended to be the next stage of evolution of navigation aid for browsing country-related information on Wikipedia, improving upon (and complementing) the presentation of country-related subjects in Wikipedia's category system.

One of these pages has been created for every country of the world and development is already well underway, but so far only a few have been transferred to the encyclopedia itself...

  • The countries completed enough that they have been transfered to article space can be found listed at Portal:Contents/Lists of basic topics#Geography and places. These still need finishing touches, articles or redirects need to be created for each of their redlinks, and the lists need to be embellished with maps and images.

Are your favorite countries covered in the encyclopedia yet, or are they still in the draft section?

Developing and maintaining the List of basic geography topics

The list of basic geography topics is a general overview of geography. It is part of Lists of basic topics (the members of which share a common format), and is thus part of Wikipedia's table of contents system. It is incomplete and needs to be finished. The list also needs dedicated editors to watchlist it, to counter vandalism and to monitor its development. Finally, it needs to be maintained, to reflect changes on the presentation of the subject on Wikipedia (adding links to new relevant topics, updating links, etc.). Most importantly, since it outlines geography and is a key navigation aid for browsing geography topics on Wikipedia, the WikiProject Geography is the perfect caretaker for this page. Please adopt it, improve it, and treat it with tender loving care.

  • Geography of Saskatchewan is up for good article nomination. If anyone has any suggestions that could improve it to achieve GA that would be awesome.SriMesh | talk 03:27, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Adopt an article

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
