Welcome to the Glaciers WikiProject, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Glaciers.

(For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects).

Goals
Scope
  • All articles about glaciers, glaciology, geologic and geographical impacts from glaciers, as well as climatological articles directly related to glaciers.
The Malaspina Glacier is so large that it can only seen in its entirety from space; this 1994 photo from STS-66, on a rare clear day, is of an area about 100 km (60 mi) across.

Helpful pointers:

  • To do metric conversions it is recommended one use Google by simply typing the distance or area and then to the conversion one wishes to make.
  • It is generally standard practice to have metric distances and areas in articles shown first with United States customary units second unless the article is about a glacier in the U.S. In scientific articles, metric is generally considered to be the standard and customary units are used only as a courtesy. Either way is fine.
  • Glaciers are sometimes more difficult to locate on a map than are mountains, so a query on a certain mountain known to be close the glacier may help narrow down the search.
