WikiProject Manual of Style is a project whose mission is to coordinate the multiple pages which form the Manual of Style guidelines.
Contents |
Scope
The Wikipedia Manual of Style is a key guideline for writing Wikipedia articles. Its provisions are now spread across many different pages, and coordinating it has become a challenging task. The purpose of this WikiProject is to address this challenge.
Goals
- To provide a forum to discuss issues which cut across several Manual of Style pages, and any other issues which are related to the Wikipedia Manual of Style, including Wikipedia article naming conventions.
- To facilitate communication between editors interested in different aspects of the Manual of Style (and its sub-guidelines and related pages), and encourage editors to think of the Manual of Style as a whole.
- To identify discrepancies between individual Manual of Style pages, and encourage the resolution of these discrepancies.
- To develop guidelines for adding new pages to the Manual of Style, and for dividing or combining current Manual of Style pages.
- To develop a proposal regarding the status of the Manual of Style within Wikipedia: as a set of guidelines, or as policy.
- To provide a notice board (presently WT:MOSCO) for Manual of Style and naming convention proposals for merge, split, rename, etc.
- To provide a cooperative and collegial forum for centralised discussion of style issues on Wikipedia.
This WikiProject aims to be as inclusive as possible: anyone can be involved, and all contributions are welcome. It is important that the WikiProject reflect the consensus of editors of all Manual of Style pages. Where editors at different pages disagree, the project aims to facilitate discussion rather than impose solutions. This page is a project, not a guideline, and so it can only help to organise communication between editors; it cannot change guidelines.
