History
The first Wintersun album was supposed to be a side project of Ensiferum member Jari Mäenpää. However, since the Ensiferum European tour was scheduled simultaneously with the recording of Wintersun, Mäenpää had to choose between his booked recording time for Wintersun and Ensiferum; he chose Wintersun and was forced to leave Ensiferum behind. Wintersun was produced and performed solely by the multi-instrumenalist Mäenpää himself, with the help of only a session drummer, Kai Hahto. On September 13, 2004, Wintersun was released through Nuclear Blast Records, with a live DVD released after only their fifth concert.4
According to their official website, the band started to record their next full-length, entitled Time, at Sonic Pump Studios in May 2006, but was delayed due to computer difficulties.56 Wintersun is scheduled to appear at Bloodstock in August 2009, coinciding with the newly scheduled release date of Time.7
