Zubtsov (Russian: Зубцо́в) is a town in Tver Oblast, Russia. It is located at the confluence of the Volga River and Vazuza Rivers, 153 km south of Tver, 18 km southeast of Rzhev, and 44 km southwest of Staritsa. Population: 7,200 (2006); 7,430 (2002 Census); 8,100 (1998).
Zubtsov was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1216. In the Middle Ages, it was a border fortress of the Principality of Tver. Muscovy annexed it with the rest of the Tver Principality in 1485. Subsequently, the town was important chiefly as a market for trade in flax. Its Neoclassical cathedral was constructed in 1801.
